Something I’ve noticed in recent weeks is that more commenters on YouTube and social media seem more angry and unhinged than normal.
One example:
On Saturday I posted a video about DCSports87 making a lot of recent mistakes:
I debated whether they were scamming people or if they were just incompetent, and decided on the latter. I totally understand if someone disagrees and comes to the scam conclusion. A lot of people did.
One commenter, though, posted a handful of comments (since deleted, I think, for some reason) accusing me of being paid by DCSports87 to post that video. He claimed repeatedly that it was obvious I was paid, and even more obvious that it was a scam. He could not explain what exactly the scam was.
Now I want you to imagine a company paying someone to post a video pointing out that company’s recent mistakes and calling the company incompetent and/or stupid. And the video gets 25,000 views or more.
What company would do this? Why would they do this?
Prior to doing the video, I had never spoken with a DCSports87 employee. I had reached out to them for comment on certain things and had never heard back. Since doing the video, I have heard from a couple employees. I might have more info soon.
In the meantime, here’s another example of the weirdness, sent to me by Joel:
DCSports87 has listed a 2024 Panini Select Curtis Samuel Concourse Black Prizm #1/1 Bills on eBay. The weird thing is they have auctioned that same card on eBay 6 times since May:
What is happening there?
As for unhinged viewers and commenters, these seem to happen far more often on videos that have “escaped containment,” as (I believe) NEO describes videos that the algorithm carries outside of your normal viewers. I got a ton of insane comments on a recent video about eBay starting extended bidding (and thus ending snipe bidding). One commenter even suggested that I should be put to death for using snipe software. That video got a lot of non-card viewers because it was ostensibly about eBay, which is used by everyone.

👻 Brief Horror Movie Review of the Week
I watched Halloween 2 this week and I’m not sure why. For some reason Halloween 3 is on the Fangoria top 100 list, so I decided to watch 2. It’s not good! And then I found out that the third one is completely unrelated and doesn’t even have Michael Myers. And has terrible ratings.
For Halloween 2 I gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars.
I’ll wait to watch the third.
