Sports Card Prices: Why I Don't Always Share
Plus some updates
I received a few comments during and after the national, basically telling me I needed to share how much I paid for cards or those commenters were going to unsubscribe.

I’ll share prices I paid when I feel it adds value to the video. If there’s an interesting negotiation.
If a card is priced at $100 and I offer $80 and they say yes, that’s not adding anything to it.
But here’s the thing: I’m only withholding prices on the really expensive cards. And for me, “really expensive” would be “really cheap” for many others. The most I’ve ever paid for a card was $1,100, the only time I’ve spent $1,000 or more.
I’m not comfortable sharing those expensive card prices because it’s not relatable for a large chunk of the YouTube audience. It wasn’t relatable for me until the last year or two.
The vast, vast majority of cards I buy are under $50. I save up my meager YouTube revenue for big opportunities to buy cards like my Clemente rookie.
If it’s important to you to know if I got a good deal, trust that I did. Look up comps. If it’s a modern card (like my Steph Curry rookie), know that I paid below comps. If it’s vintage and has high eye appeal, I may have paid at comps or slightly more.
If that’s still not good enough, by all means don’t watch my channel anymore.
It feels like a good time to do an AMA since it’s been a couple months, at least. So comment below or reply to this email to ask me anything. I’ll respond in a video coming soon.
When will this newsletter return on a regular basis? Probably at some point in September.
October 1st at the very latest.
I would bank on the 15th of September if there were a betting market for this. (Spoiler alert: there isn’t.)
Will there be changes? Not much! Season 2 of the newsletter will be pretty similar. I envision subplots involving PSA, Fanatics, and SGC. Count on a new character arc for lower-case c collectors like you and me. And more horror movies.
If you have a really cool collection and want to be featured, comment or reply to let me know!

Last wall just needs to be primed and painted.
Video this week?
How Good Is Roman Anthony?
I’m not in the business of buying a lot of ultra-modern cards, and definitely not buying a lot of one player after the disasters that were 2023 Triston Casas, Shane McClanahan, and Sandy Alcantara, but I did buy this:

👻 Brief Horror Movie Reviews of the Week
Here are all the horror movies and my ratings (out of 5 stars) since my last newsletter:
Run: 3.5 stars (not sure why this has a horror genre, but it does. Definitely more of a thriller)
Bring Her Back: 4.5 Stars
Blair Witch Project: 4 stars
Clown In A Cornfield: 4 stars (couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed this)
Saw (the original): 4.5 stars
Sinners: 2 stars
Silent Hill: 1 star
I also watched season 2 of Squid Game and gave it 4.5 stars.
I also watched Friendship, starring Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd. 4 stars. I’ll watch anything with Tim Robinson in it.
