Are card collectors limited to 1 grail card each?

Plus a ton of links!

A couple of weeks ago I did a mail day video where I obtained a “grail” card:

This use of “grail” upset at least one viewer:

This is, of course, far from my first time talking about grail cards, and I’ve done a handful of videos where I’ve added a grail card to my collection.

Here’s how I define grail card:

A card you search for the right copy of for a long time.

That’s really it. Does it need to be a rare card? No. But the condition I want it in and my budget can make it a difficult card to obtain.

There are 50ish graded Sadaharu Oh cards. That’s pretty rare! I looked at every copy that hit eBay for over a year. Some fit my price range. Some fit my desired condition. None fit both, until I heard from Robert from Prestige Collectibles, who specializes in cards from Japan and Japanese athletes.

Some cards are easy to find, and easy to find in the right condition and price. Those aren’t grails.

The cards that push my budget and I wait months or years for? Grails.

I think that person is taking this too seriously. What do you think about grails?

My friend Jake of Wax Pack Wisdom calls it a “goal card,” which I kind of like, but I’m sticking with grail.

If you’re shopping for grail cards or goal cards, make sure they’re protected with products from The Pennysleever:

From longtime viewer Mikey G, whose biggest flaw is being a Yankees fan:

I was surprised to find that Close to Home was still kicking around. I remember loving it many years ago.

🗣️ YouTube Comment Of The Week

Making up for my earlier dig at Yankees fans.

🎬 Upcoming Videos

I’m taking a vacation out of state with my wife and youngest next week. I’m not sure if I’ll have any videos Monday through Friday while I’m away.

Actually, I take that back. I’ll be interviewing Dan Pina and posting it while I’m away. I’ve covered Dan’s hobby room three times in the past, and he was recently featured by Topps.

🎬 Channel Highlights From the Past Week

From two weeks ago, I highlighted the failed stories from 1990ish. One of them featured a baseball card expert named Bob Thing from my home state of Maine, and many questioned if Mr. Thing was real.

Well, it turns out Bob was featured in an old issue of Sports Collectors Digest. Thanks to Ben for sending this to me!

And here’s the best image I’ve seen of Arlo with his Wagner, courtesy of viewer Brian:

Also from a couple of weeks ago, my buddy Steve sent me a photo of his 1997 Pinnacle Inside cans:

🎁 My Pickup Of The Week

Nothing major, but I’m working on finishing the 1993 Topps Finest Red Sox refractor set. Just missing two after getting this one, which will be featured in an upcoming video about cracking slabs.

👻 Brief Horror Movie Review of the Week

Heart Eyes is a bit too romance-y, and that romance is too predictable for me, but the action had some good twists and the horror was really good.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

The Monkey was pretty stupid, but my bar for entertainment is low.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

That’s 17 horror movies in 17 weeks. Can I get to 52 by the end of the year?

On this date in sports history: On May 5th 1904, Cy Young pitched the first perfect game in “modern” baseball history, under the rules established in 1903.
